Dentrix has been utilized since 2017 to seamlessly convert paper records into scanned documents within the Dentrix EMR system. Users have found it to be a valuable tool for digitizing and organizing patient information, eliminating the need for cumbersome paper charts. The software offers basic capabilities for successful patient care and is complemented by excellent technical support, ensuring a smooth transition from paper-based to digital record-keeping. With Dentrix G7, users can easily set up the EMR system and access it from any clinic, enhancing efficiency and convenience.

The web-based program of Dentrix has proven to be user-friendly, offering features like line-item accounting and user-defined reports. These functionalities assist dental offices in managing their front desk operations, clinical work, and business areas effectively. Dentrix plays a crucial role in scheduling patient appointments, managing claims, and facilitating other billing tasks. It was developed in 1995 by a user who recognized the challenges of paper charting and the need for integration with digital imaging software. Over time, Dentrix has evolved to become one of the top leaders in the dental software industry, providing a reliable backbone for dental offices.

Not only does Dentrix streamline operations and improve workflow efficiency, but it also prioritizes data security. By eliminating the reliance on paper records, Dentrix helps ensure that patient information remains safe and secure. Additionally, dentists have found value in utilizing Dentrix alongside marketing tools to ensure that patients show up for their scheduled appointments. This further enhances patient engagement and practice productivity. Overall, Dentrix serves as an essential solution for dental offices seeking to optimize their record-keeping processes while providing efficient patient care.

Based on user reviews, a common recommendation for Dentrix is to consider other options such as Open Dental for cheaper and easier-to-use software. Users also suggest utilizing the training offered by Dentrix despite its expensive cost and evaluating specific needs and costs before choosing Dentrix. Additionally, seeking guidance from experienced users or Dentrix support when encountering difficulties is advised. It is also recommended to compare Dentrix with other software options and attend training sessions to fully utilize its capabilities.

Dentrix has been in use for our company since we moved away from HealthProXL back in 2017. Dentrix allowed us to convert all of our pre-existing paper records into scanned documents that were saved within the Dentrix EMR system.

Patient care wise, Dentrix has provided all the basic capabilities to provide successful patient care along with their great technical support. Being that I'm in IT, I don't handle the patient care aspect, but I support our dental staff who provides the patient care. Dentrix support is excellent to work with, they understand the problems and detail what they are going to resolve the problems.

Dentrix G7 has allowed us to have a greater EMR system setup than the first EMR and paper records combination.
  • Detailed Charting
  • Excellent technical support
  • Ease of installation of the software
  • Limited capabilities for capturing demographic data for reporting purposes for FQHC's in the G7 version. (Enterprise Edition is needed for this)
  • Inability to run G7 at multiple sites without a terminal server setup and limited speeds.
  • Better image integration with DEXIS.
Dentrix G7 is better suited for small private dental offices that are not doing federal FQHC data reporting every year. G7 doesn't allow for the full capturing of all FQHC data that is needed as the enterprise edition does. Dentrix G7 also is not suited well for mutliple site dental offices as that is not technically supported. There is a work around requiring a Windows terminal server to setup Dentrix as a server application. Any businesses that have multiple dental offices are better suited for the Dentrix Enterprise edition which does allow for this and hosted Dentrix.
  • Dental Charting
  • Xray/Imaging capture by Dexis and storage in Dentrix
  • Billing and front office scheduling.
  • Dentrix has streamlined going from paper records to full EMR
  • Dentrix has allowed for better data sharing between dental providers and staff.
  • Dentrix has allowed for staff to see more patients through streamlining features.
I used Patterson's EagleSoft in a limited capacity at a previous health center job. On the back end, EagleSoft was easier to setup, install, and manage than Dentrix. Backing up data files, migrating servers, was easier (but slower) on EagleSoft than on Dentrix. Dentrix appears to have a greater feature capability/set than EagleSoft does. Both have excellent technical support that is responsive, indepth, and well suited to address IT related problems with both EMR systems.

Dentrix is the backbone of our dental office. Our whole office uses it from front to back. This product always has updates for new features or bug fixes.
  • Easy to look up, edit, delete, break and make appointments. This is great when you're on the phone with someone and are able to quickly locate them in the system and see what appointments they have.
  • Easily make changes to providers information, colors or schedules. This is nice because we tend to have fill in hygienists and we can change their colors so it will not indicate the same colors as are our normal staff.
  • Easily print reports and deposits from the office manager. This helps us keep track of new patients, aging reports, unscheduled appointments, unscheduled treatment, continuing care appointments and so much more.
  • We didn't think the reminder system was enough for our business... there need to be ways to be reminded of the patient's needs.
  • Electronic claims was a little complicated and we stopped using that feature.
  • There tend to be glitches, but they are always fixing that. The GURU runs VERY slow and doesn't prove to be a good tool for visual education.
Dentrix proves to be a great dental software program with loads of features to make your life easier; whether it be in the front or back office. We look forward to all the new updates coming our way that will help simplify Dentrix.
On the other hand, there are SO many features and no one to train you in depth about any of it! We have asked numerous times to get a basic demo on how to get information such as putting in a new patient, adding insurance, running reports etc. Stuff that we already know. Their training are also very basic and never (even when you ask) will they help you go into all the features, they say there are manual and training guides online. How are we supposed to know everything it does and how to use it!
  • Dentrix is a good solid platform to use and we rely heavily on it.
  • Dentrix is so advanced and has lots to offer, but we don't know half of what it can do.
  • It is a nice thought that there are many 3rd party applications that work with Dentrix to give you a broader and more fulfilling way to run your business.
Unlike Cloud-based products, this is nice because it has the ability to have a back up in multiple locations; on and off-site. Sometimes, based on your computer stats, it can start to run slowly until the cache is cleared or old x-rays are deleted. This is avoided in a cloud-based product. However, "The biggest difference between these two systems is how they are deployed. Cloud-based software is hosted on the vendor's servers and accessed through a Web browser. On-premise software is installed locally, on a company's own computers and servers."

I built my network and my first version of Dentrix by myself in 1995 back when it was a separately owned company from Utah. Not something I'd recommend these days as Windows Server security and complexity is vastly more complicated than NT 4.0 server in 1995. Support has gone down since Henry Schein bought Dentrix. They outsource support to India or some other foreign country in that region. It's a crap shoot when you call level 1 support whether you get someone who can actually understand your question and knows how to fix the problem. It we don't get a good level 1 support tech we ask for at least a level 3 tech based in the United States. These people always understand English well and are usually very competent. If they can't fix the problem they'll kick it up to the highest level, level 4 support and they usually get the problem fixed. I almost installed Patterson Dental Eaglesoft a couple of years ago because of their built-in word processor and ease of sending nice snail mail to patients but their tooth chart is from the Stone Age compared to Dentrix' tooth chart and charting capabilities.
  • Charting is easy and fast
  • It's relatively fast on a gigabit network
  • It's relatively easy to bridge to other software packages like Dexis and Sidexix
  • You have to use an outside word processor like Microsoft Word to merge patient data with and send a nice snail mail letter to a patient. Email is impersonal in my opinion.
  • Bring support back to the United States
  • Train level 1 support techs much better
Dentrix is suited for the smallest practice with only one doctor. It's not for very large practices especially when they have multiple locations. Dentrix Enterprise is for that group.
  • It continues to give us a good ROI
  • The monthly support payment of $200 covers all updates and support
  • It's easy to electronically file insurance with attachments such as photos, narratives, and x-rays. If all the insurance companies would start accepting everything electronically that would eliminate our having to print claims and file them snail mail.
Best of the ones I've looked at. Dentrix has a cloud version I'm going to look at.
